Default The trouble with splitting hairs

is that it can be hard to know which side of the hair you're on:

IMO, it's things like this that give good reason for average joes to
cast a skeptical eye on what scientists tell them...frankly a lot of
this niche species and subspecies identification just feeds the
publication and tenure process, rather than actually having a basis in
reality.

Discussions of reality aside, I note that a couple of the article
authors are from NMSU.

It is pretty dense reading for this non-specialist, but I'm going to
give it a go.
