Some of you guys were kind enough recently to give me advice about which
kind of reel I should buy to go with my old Fenwick rod. Well, I haven't bought a reel yet but I have another request. I dug into the old tubes that my grandfathers old cane rods were sent to me from England in, and I wonder if any of you guys have any knowledge about them. I have a total of four rods, two of which are are not fly rods. They a a) A Foster Bros three piece fly rod of about 8'6" to 9', labelled The "WLF" although the last letter may be a Y. b) A Foster Bros. two piece rod labelled the "Holding". This is not a fly rod. c) Another coarse fishing rod: an Allcocks two piece spinning rod without a model name on the rod itself d) An unidentified trout rod of about 8'. I can find no makers name on this which surprises me as it another nice looking rod. It has a slide band type reel seat. The cork of the handle appears to have been knawn on by rats. The butt cap (if that is the word) has the remains of a piece of brown leather sticking out from it. What would this have been for? This leather flap has also has been chewed by something. I guess ID' ing this reel will not be easy. Is there anywhere I might have missed a makers mark? Is there some way to repair the (rodent) damaged rod? Anyway, thanks for any help. They are the only things I have of my grandfathers and I would like to keep them. Dan Hugh-Jones |
