Yesterday, there was a black caddis on the front door of my office
building. We are about 300 yards from any moving water, that being a slow drainage creek. I often see mayflies of assorted stripes at my house. The house is 3 miles from the river. Not a lot, but enough to peak my interest. Does anyone know how far these things travel in the course of their lives? I know a strong wind can blow them around but its been fairly calm the last couple of weeks. Frank Reid |

We're probably also about 3-4 miles from the Rio Grande, and there is no other flowing water nearby (other than flash floods, my obreid addendum). Jon. |

Frank Reid From what I know of Brenda, I'd say you've already hit the lottery. Got it in one. By the way, she's a happy camper right now. The BoSox are doing well (even though she's ****ed that the Dodgers are doing well with Manny. She doesn't like prima donnas that don't do their job). Hockey starts in October, football is coming up and she just got a sewing machine that is worth more than two of our cars put together. Frank "broke wallet poutin'" Reid |

Frank Reid At least 300 yards, and possibly even up to 3 miles. Or so I've heard. --riverman BTW, its 'pique' your interest, as in the French. I thought Fred should know that. |

Frank Reid Black caddis and some mayflies are known to be suicidal, so just being around you satisfies this urge. TAGH, right? d;o) Speaking of bugs, I noticed one the other day I hadn't seen before. I'm hoping one (or more) of you could help me identify it. Small (5/16" wingtip to wingtip), wings held horizontally (spread out like a dragonfly, not your typical caddis), two tiny hair-thin tails about as long as one of its wings. It was hung up in the surface film of a pond just outisde Houston, Texas, being attacked by a water-walking spider that was not quite as large as the "bug". Any ideas? |
