I haven't heard from or about him, but I've heard from others in the
immediate strike area and DFW, and only a coupla-three people are
believed killed, all from doing stupid stuff (for example, reports are
that one person was outside and got hit by a tree or part thereof).
While DFW is due to get some bad weather, it doesn't appear to be
anything extreme or unheard-of for the area. In fact, if the weather
there is what is currently predicted, I've personally seen worse in the
DFW area. Where I wouldn't want to be (and thankfully, it is much
less-populated than Houston/Galveston or DFW) is the big pines area of
east and southeast Texas - I do not like being in the drop zone of pines
in serious blow, and the upper right quad of a hurricane is the worst
area.

as an aside, I saw a poignant image during coverage last evening. There was
what I believe to be an anti-littering road sign that read: "Don't Mess with
Texas". The sign stood, waving wildly in the wind, while about 2 or 3 feet
of water, littered with seaweed, driftwood and chunks of what appeared to be
siding from a house blasted past it. A still image would have been a
priceless reminder that Mother Nature will mess with Texas(or any other
place) whenever she damned well pleases.
