Got to Farmoor Flyfishers Darlow lake in West Oxfordshire about 11am
yesterday - season opened on April 1st. Water level high, cold and with a gentle NE breeze that had an edge to it. Not too many other anglers around and some fish showing. Small black chironomids in the air - so on with a 12 ft leader, one dropper, two size 14 black and orange superglue buzzers and a strike indicator, with a very slow retrieve. Very slight twitch on the indicator and lifted into a 12 in brown (all browns have to be returned). Missed several and lost one before hooking a decent brown (around 2 lb). Two more browns before I gave up at about 2.30pm. Unusual in that the ratio of browns to rainbows in the lake is about 1:4 and I have never only caught browns before. Gordon |
