Time had arrived, last Wednesday, to open Clave Central for the season.
Accompanied by Handyman Mike Shaw, and the Finn(Mike Makela), and with a couple cameo appearances by Bruce Fisher, we started off the Penn's trout season. In a 5 day period marked by a range of temps between 34 and 91 degrees, we saw a tremendous amount of Grannom Caddis, smaller Black Caddis, Blue Quills, Quill Gordons and Hendricksons. What we DIDN'T see were rising trout. Most all fish caught were subsurface, with deep nymphs, streamers and wet flies the only sources of angling success, and those successes were pretty limited. At any rate, we all had a blast, including my little dog Teddy, who needed a weekend in the woods. Trout aplenty await at Penn's. We foolishly did not try other local streams(I suspect both Big Fishing and Spring Creeks would have fished better), but are ready to welcome all to Penns Creek late in May! Tom |
