I have used circle hooks for many years for cat fishing, to me they are
awesome when you have your fishing rod in a rod holder, set your drag way, way down, and let the fish run with the bait, you don't care if the hook goes all way down to the gut, as most of the time the hook comes back out and catches the fish in the corner of the mouth, that is if you just gradually increase your drag as the fish swims away. If you have never used circle hooks, try them, just remember you don't "set" the hook with a circle, if you do , you will loose most fish. There is only one hook better for cat fishing than a circle hook, that is the "Stand Out" Hook from TTI (True Turn), like a circle hook, it hooks "all" cat fish in the mouth, they can't swallow it though, it can't go down to the gut, the real difference, the one that really makes it Stand Out over the rest, is the bait presentation. When the Stand Out is properly rigged for cat fishing, the bait never touches the bottom, it does not get into the muck, or weeds where the cat fish have to work to find it and get it out of that mess, neither does it snag in that mess. The proper way to rig a Stand Out for cats is tie one or two hooks leaving 3 feet of line from the top hook to the end, and about 12 inches of the second hook from the end, then tie on a weight on the end of the line, place a small float above the top hook, just enough float to float your bait/s, but not your weight. This will keep the bait a set distance off the bottom regardless of the depth of the water . The reason this is a better presentation, the bait is at or above eye level (cat fish eyes are more on the top of their heads) the baits scent is free to drift from the bait. See drawing at http://ezknot.com/suhook30.gif, on the ways to rig it for cats, It can be rigged with the float on top of the water as well -- Secret Weapon Recoil Rig, Fishing lure remote control See lure video you won't believe http://secretweaponlures.com/spectastic.htm |

Catfish fishing can be one of the a lot of fun and agitative fishing you can do. Choosing the appropriate catfish fishing angle will depend on what blazon and admeasurement catfish you are aggravating to catch. Choose a angle too baby and you will never bolt the absolutely big ones. Choose a angle to ample and if you don't bolt the big one you may not bolt annihilation at all.
