Default Happy Christmas

To
My Democrat Friends:

Please
accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an
environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress,
non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice
holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious
persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with
respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of
others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions
at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and
medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally
accepted calendar year 2010, but not without due respect for the
calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society
have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily
greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western
Hemisphere.
Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age,
physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wish.

To
My Republican* Friends:

* * * * Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

* * * * In the year of our Lord Jesus Christ 2010.

And to all, "Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men."

Dave

Dave, merry Christmas.
Funny thing, I also got a card, sent to me by mistake apparently.

To my politically naive friends of the Conservative persuasion.
Here's to a new year and lots of luck in not getting caught with that
load of illegals living in your shop, or by your friends who might
remind you of that rant you gave about wetbacks at the Scrooge Dinner.
Here's hoping you fail in selling your Dads secret process to that
Chinese company because you would rather play more golf and you blew
the money set aside to buy new machines in Vegas last year, so you
blame it on the unions, although no one in your shop is actually a
union member. And here's hoping the drunk, greencard guard out at the
gate doesn't decide to sell his master keys to his burglar friend for
more than he will make in a year on what the "Community" pays him.
Here's hoping that the kids recover from the beatings Dr Dobson told
you to give them. Here's hoping that attendant at the up-scale
assisted living center where you placed Big Moma doesn't make her lick
his privates every day. Here's hoping you will get to know your
countrymen, stop filibustering the budget for the ammo our soldiers
need, and get a hold of an 8th grade science book so you can stop
playing the fool about climate change.

And to my Democrat, moderate Republican, Independent, and progressive
friends, Merry Christmas, Happy Honica, Praise Allah the Tolerant, and
Be Happy, Don't worry.
This land is your land
This land is my land
From the Redwood Forest
To the New York Island
This land was made for you and me.

Dave,

For reasons that are inscrutable even to me, Wales has always struck
me as a very proper place to spend Christmas. Alas, I've never
crossed to the east side of the pond to test the theory. Maybe
someday.....I've got people who've got people somewhere around there.

This year, I'll be spending Christmas in a cozy little house in the
woods with a very few very dear friends. We will doubtless roast
chestnuts on an open fire. And not just any chestnuts......real
American Chestnuts! The last of a dwindling species, or so I
thought. We will also go out and cut and prune and chip and spread
and split. Benjamin Franklin said that he who cuts his own wood is
twice warmed. Well, yeah, if you burn it where it drops. What with
falling, cutting, spliting, hauling, stacking, hauling again into the
house......we will be at least thrice warmed.....probably more. We
will also be warmed internally by a wide and varied and bountiful (if
not necessarily refined) selection of comestibles and potables, and
psychically by the company we keep and our surroundings.

And all of that strikes me as very proper, too.

Merry Christmas, Bill......and yes, all the rest of you as well.
