Default Hat Eyes

I bought myself a new Hat Eyes yesterday. I intend to put it on the
back of my Tilley so I can rotate the whole hat to use the magnifier.

The last one I had I lost this way. It was a cold, rainy, day and
apparently bulky clothes and an unused hood of a rain jacket under the
hat combined to pull the magnifier off my hat.

Anybody come up with any clever way to add security to the clip-on
mounting of a Hat Eyes? Or somehow stiffen the mounting on a Tilley
to limit flop?

They just just came off in normal activity - brushing other clothes

I've written to Tilley about this with no response. Try drilling a
small, pin sized hole through the clip and put a pin (with a backer)
through it. Girl friends old ear ring that she's lost the mate to
will also work. Just don't tell your bride.
I was also looking at dipping the front of the brim in starch, mold it
to shape, let it dry and then spraying it with a fabric seal (scotch
guard). Haven't tried it yet.

Having looked at the devise, I would suggest drilling a small hole through
the clip section and poking a small hole in hat and then knot them together
with some stron nylon twine or a corrosion resistant cotter key.

Just a thought.

I never check ROFF in the summer, so I had missed that ...

I've haven't had magnifiers start my neck on fire, but I have
considered the possibility

the jewelery style pin and pin gripping dealie is what I am going to
try .... if I can find same

Aligator clips. One for the Hat Eyes, one for either your hat or
collar of your jacket. I have used them in the past to hold my hat on
during a windy day in Labrador. Get into a fish, wind takes off your
hat, and you might tend to forget the fish and go for the hat. I've
lost more than a few hats this way until I started using alligator
clips.

Go to any Radio Shack and you can pick them up cheaply. Google
alligator clips and see picture.

I figure it goes without saying but, I will add, connect the two
alligator clips together with coated electrical wire. Works for me.

For god's sake, Frank; do not do this and fish in electrical storms!
