JT Persicio's place was/is (?) a trip even before he owned it. I remember going in there in the early 1980's. A couple of booze hounds were pushing some "hand tied" flies harder than any Newark windshield washer at a ghetto traffic light. I looked at the "flies" and could not help cracking up. There appeared to be chicken**** still on some of the flies. Yep, genuine hand-tied of local materials too. Wow. Here were guys who tied EVEN worse than me!!!. I could not stop laughing at what I thought was a well orchestrated "play the dude" exercise. BIG mistake. Anyway, I didn't slow down till I got to Phillipsburg. Persicio was irreverent but he was an improvement for sure. Dave |

Dave Since we moverd West and I started fishing Riock Creek 12 years now Doug always had some pretty good local fly tyers and good info on the web and in person on Rock Creek conditions We both grwe up in NYC Doug was a nice man If the weather was bad we would stay at the motel next to the fly shop Rates were fairly inexpensive - a room that slept 3 or 4 w cooking $70 Hiis grandson John and his wife Carolyn will continue to run the fly shop - I hope in the same relaxed and friendly and knowledgeable ambiance We just came back from a successful fishingh and camping trip w the grandkids w / one day of gem minimg near Phillipsburg- Gem Mountain There is also a great OLD hotel - Broadway Hotel ion Phillipsburg Its a niice area that we have gortten to know fairrly well as I have gotten to know the ways and places, and holding spots around the Creek Fred |
