She was an inspiration, a curmudgeon and an icon. No low-fat,
no low-calorie, no "substituting", she cooked with the real stuff and dined on the real stuff and she died in her sleep last night at the age of 91. Rest in peace Julia Child, you were quite a gal. I went through my dog-eared copy of _Mastering the Art of French Cooking_ trying to match up a recipe with what's in the larder. Tonight it's ratatouille "Julia Style." Gonna take me all afternoon, Julia, god bless her, didn't believe in cutting any culinary corners. -- Ken Fortenberry |

I've loved her since I heard her say that the SNL skit about her was funny.
She'll be missed. I didn't watch her regularly, but I just happened to see the episode in which she dropped a turkey she was cooking on the kitchen floor. She picked it up, looked at the camera and said, "You're all alone in the kitchen, and no one will know." And went on with her cooking. Perhaps she learned that coolth in the OSS during WW II. vince |
