Default Short TR: Pottapaug Pond, MA

Much as in GC's fine report, I was in need of some refreshening. Stan
came by my office on Tuesday and said he was also ready for a day off
for some fishing, so we made plans to head off to Pottapaug Pond on
Thursday.

We couldn't have picked a better day. Thursday brought with it bright
sunny skies with a few puffs of clouds as accents. Stan and I met as he
pulled his van into the new secret spot in Belchertown (

pond: http://css.sbcma.com/timj/pics/pottapaug.jpg , which is part of
The Quabbin reservoir system. After we motored out for a while, we
started fishing in earnest and, after a few relocations, found some
great spots to fish. We picked up a lot of nice chunky bluegill in a few
coves like this one: http://css.sbcma.com/timj/pics/bluegill_cove.jpg
and even caught a big crappie and a fair sized LM bass. Most of the fish
caught yesterday were hooked on various gurgler patterns, although I did
cheat and use a soft plastic grub for a few fish.

The best part of the day was just being outside. The temperature was in
the high 70's, low humidity, and, as you can see from the photos, clear
as a bell. We saw several beaver, great blue heron, and egret. It was
the type of day where it was difficult to think of anything other than
fun on the water. We'll be going out there again at least once or twice
more this season, one of the times (I hope) during fall foliage peak
colors.
