What would you want in a fishing software program?
Bill

Jumping in midstream, forgive me if this is redundant.

I'd want to be able to input data about fish caught: size, numbers,
date, time and location. I'd also want to input fly used, as well as
'other data' that I could select, such as weather, insects, etc. Even
narrative data for future reference.

Then I'd want to be able to select any two variables and graph the
results: say, Royal Wulff vs Time, and see if there is a correlation
between them. Maybe they work better in the mornings, and I never
noticed? I'd also want to be able to limit my data; to a specific
river, or a specific fish, to see things like what fly historically
worked best for trout in the mornings on Mussleman Creek.

I'd also want the data to be in a form where I could share it with
others who had the same software, to increase the database.

It seems like the best way to handle all of these requirements would be
a web-based ODBC database. You'd have to limit your input resources to
people you trust to make good entries, but that could be handled by HTML
security. With data query tools like MS Query & Excel, or Crystal
Reports, you could extract the data any way you want and get the graphs
you mentioned.

Here's a quickie I threw together: http://css.sbcma.com/timj/fish_data/
, but someone with a better understanding of PHP and mySQL could do a
lot better (graphs and such). Make a few entries and see what you think.
