Default Looking at new reels. Question on Calcutta.

What is the difference between the Calcutta xxx and the xxxTE? Looking at a
251 size reel.

Looks like the TE costs more, has more bearings, Super free pinion, and
a wiffle spool..

Default Looking at new reels. Question on Calcutta.

They are both great rels, but it's like comparing apples and oranges, first
off there is no 251 TE, but the 201 will suffice. The TE has 10 ball
bearings and a roller bearing, the 251 has 2 and a roller bearing. The TE
has a completely different side case on the handle side with a completely
different, beefier and more efficient gear set, and the other features
mentioned before. That said I'd had a 251 for about 10 years or better and
it's never given me a lick of problems in fresh or sal****er. It is reported
that this series of reels are the first reels designed by Shimano where the
reel's design was of maximum concern and than the bean counters had to worry
about how much to charge for them.

Cabin-fever season is starting already. I haven't been fishing or
posting much, but I just received the new Bass Pro catalog. Have you
guys noticed the new Calcutta TE with computerized backlash control????

Just wanted to stop by and wish everyone a Merry Christmas

Yes and I've actually had a chance to play with one. I was in Las Vegas at the ICAST Show when
Shimano trotted this bad boy out. It's amazing how far you could cast with a very lightweight lure,
however, the computer onboard is no guarantee that you'll never get another backlash.

While it does work very well, there was one guy from South Africa that threw a backlash of epic
proportions.
