As I was driving down to Tyler last Tuesday, I stopped to fish a good little
lake at Canton, and did something stupid and broke my favorite 3 weight rod. I drove over to TFO Thursday and Jason was taking out the trash when he saw me walking up with my rod case, Break your rod? Yeah I was stupid and broke the tip section. While the other guys were admiring the Leo Eck reel seat and the Duane Hada schrimshaw end cap of the biot body soft hackle, that I had added to the rod, Jason fitted another tip section to my rod. After Rick Pope got off the phone we visited a few minutes and the boxer brought me a ball to throw for a while. In just a few minutes those guys had fixed my problem. They sure do give good customer service. Rick is very lucky to have such a good bunch of folks working for him. Bg Dale |

Good customer service or not, and all rods will break including Winstons, but this seems to be a common happening with the tfo rods? |

![]() "Wayne Knight" wrote but this seems to be a common happening with the tfo rods? I have broken my 9 weight twice and my three weight once. Both times on the 9 weight were my fault - all three of my rods were replaced really quickly. All three were the Professional series which are just excellent to cast. The TICR 5 weight that I have seems really tough. bruce h |

I was standing on the line and when it felt like it was hung on brush, I just gave it a jerk( or is that the jerk gave it a jerk?). I don't think it had anything to do with the brand of the rod. I just got stupid and broke it. Big Dale |

I have rarely disagreed with you over the years, but between you, Padishar, and Brusier there are 5 rods by this maker returned for service. Old timers I know tell me this was a problem common to Sage when they first came out, St. Croix on their early fly rods, Diamondback had to change their ferrulle design (I had two of their first series of rods break). The commonality here is "when they first came out", maybe they'll get more dependable, until then it's a good thing they have good service. Until then, maybe you ought to loosen your drag a little. grin |

The last one I broke was in 1968 when I broke a Herters rod by OPENING a car door on it. I could not blame the guys who made the rod then either. I just got stupid and broke that one also. I still think it as pretty cool for the guys to be grinning while they fix your screwup and you are expected to play with the dog. Big Dale |
