Default Rods banned on airplanes in EU?

Just got a news item that fishing rods are gonna be banned on airplanes in the
EU starting Feb. 1. Humm - ever hear of anyone taking their rod on the plane
rather than checking it? Where would you put it? Maybe a break down rod, but
this sounds strange. Maybe I am missing something?
