Can anyone give me any help on where to shore fish in the bay? I am a
Brit over for a few days and will have some 6 & 7ft spinning rods, one heavy one light and a bunch of lures and maybe some ledgering (bottom) tackle, pretty light though due to travel limitations. Ideally somewhere we can catch a few fish (anything will do) sit and relax and sup on some beers. I would REALLY appreciate some help. I guess jettys and piers would be good plus a bait shop nearby if needed. Any help would be appreciated. |

There is the 61st St. pier that extends out into the Gulf of Mexico and SeaWolf Park on the opposite side of the island. For free wading you can go to the West end of the island and fish the pass (but be careful of the current - it can be deadly) You can also fish the surf in some areas on that end of the beach. Take the ferry over to Bolivar and you can fish Roll Over Pass - a cut from the bay to the Gulf. You might catch the Flounder run. There is also a lot of opportunities for surf fishing (Texas has open beach laws). There are a number of web sites that outline these areas in more detail. Good luck and enjoy. Take care.
