Anybody know why BPS has these on clearance? The spring catalog says
"NEW" next to the item. I wonder if they are just on sale, rather
than clearance.

The 2004 Capricorn 'A' series were just released by Daiwa. What you see on
clearance are most likely the older model of this reel. Just check the part
number, the new models all end with letter A (i.e. CA2500A) as opposed to the
older models (CA2500). I hope this helps.

other than the fact they are heavy, bulky, don't hold up well and cast like
crap they are a pretty good reel. i took four of them on a trip a little
while back and i thought they all were clunkers and i am a daiwa man. i
have emblem z reels i have used for 3 years and love.

So which one is the one that beat out the Stradic in some of the reviews
released earlier this year? I bought a 1500 a few days ago, but it doesn't
have an "A" after it. Maybe I'll take it back for the Stradic. I have two
already and I like them just fine.

The only head-to-head comparision I've seen between the Capricorn and the
Stradic was done by Tackletour.com. They compared original version of the
Capricorn (CA2500) to a Shimano Stradic. The results of that comparision were
extremely close and can be viewed at url below.

The problem I have with this review, and many others by tackletour, is that
they do not compare identical models of reels. In this comparision they used a
2500 size Daiwa vs. a 2000 size Shimano. IMHO you cannot make a true
comparision if you are comparing apples to oranges.

Bought 4 Capricorns the beginning of the season last year. Used them all
season and they worked great, casted well nice and smooth no wobble. I
haven't a complaint about them at all and in fact would have no problem
recommending them.

strange, just the opposite as my experience. i found them to be very poor
reels and would not recomend them to anyone. maybe we'll get some more
feedback. i would be interested to hear from others.
