HELP!
The school my wife works for is having a fundraising auction. They have created "baskets" to be auctioned off containg various items. One of the "baskets" is loaded with Fishing related stuff. We were quite successful obtaining donations of the small items (lures, hooks, line, etc.) but were unable to get the "large item" we were hoping for. This means that we will probably have to buy it. I need sugestions. What we are hoping to get is a baitcasting reel and rod combo for $100 or less. I lost the arguement for spinning tackle, so it must be casting. What is my best bet (this is a price point that I am not used to shopping)? Obviously the Curado that I love so much is not an option (the $100 needs to cover both the rod & reel). Thanks, Kurt |

Check Bass Pro Shops under their combos section. There's plenty there under
$100. "KurtB" wrote in message ... HELP! The school my wife works for is having a fundraising auction. They have created "baskets" to be auctioned off containg various items. After all, it's a prize give away, it's not like you have to fish with it. For someone just getting into the sport, it will probably be an awesome rig. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

I would still fight for the spinning combo. If someone that wins this thing
doesn't know, or doesn't have the patience to learn how to use a baitcaster... then they're not going to enjoy it anyway. "Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers" wrote in message ... "Charles B. Why not a closed faced, say, Zebco 33-type combo? Easier than anything else, especially for someone that may be new or inexperienced to angling. The spinning combo represents the best of both worlds. Experienced folks would appreciate it more than a Zebco and inexperienced folks should be able to work with them with little or no practice. |

Experienced folks would appreciate it more than a Zebco and inexperienced folks should be able to work with them with little or no practice. This was my agrement for the spinning combo. They did not like the closed faced option as the people in charge kept thinking it did not look "good" enough ("too toy like" was the complaint). I suggested the spinning combo as a compromise, not to mention that for $100 can get a "respectable" set-up. They still insisted on baitcasting as it looks more "expensive" - unfortunately, if I was bidding on it, I would probably pass unless the rod or reel was worth it, but I am biased. Kurt |

The Extreme rods are excellent! The reels are fair enough, but I did manage
to go through about 3 of them in one year. PS. I can be a little rough on a reel though... but the Curados have never let me down. (Excluding one broken handle that was probably my fault) "KurtB" wrote in message ... On Thu, 12 Feb 2004 11:02:50 -0600, KurtB wrote: HELP! These reels also have a durable graphite frame and sideplates with plated thumbrest, along with an the Easy Mag® magnetic cast control system.
