Here's an email I just received fron Ari Bert's wife. The bottom part is
written by Ari, and is really inspirational: ---------------------------- Monday 7th March 2005 Well, a year ago, sad thoughts were drifting in my mind about things that could not be undone. I was probably sitting in the ICU next to a very quiet Ari, besides the constant bip bip emanating from machines close to his head and wired all over him. I am glad to say that today I am not, and that it does not stink of ether where I am sitting now. Not quiet today either is Ari, he spends his free time sending e-mails to all the friends on his recipient list, now that his laptop has been correctly set-up for Internet-use by good old me. (and I now have the use of my PC whenever I wish). Fishing, luckily, is very much on top of the list of activities in the place where Ari finds his thoughts. We are back into our old flat, from which we had moved in June when Ari came home in a hospital bed - Ari's parents had graciously offered to swap their ground-floor house for his convenience. So Ari said he feels more like the old Ari now, and he seems to recognize his wife better too now that she feels more at home ! Justin Jeffery is Ari's God, he is the miraculous Biokineticist who is coaxing those old muscles of his into a functional attitude. Thanks to him (and all Ari's hard work) Ari now gets around with nothing but two sticks in his hands, when he doesn't feel more speedy on the wheelchair. Mention must go too, to Gavin Cohen, best fishing buddy, who has the patience to remind Ari how those lines must be cast, and how the flies retrieved. Actually, Ari will say, he knows all that, but his body is just out of practise. So practise he does, under Gavin's watchful eye. Drop a line to if you want to subscribe to "Messages from the Other Dimension, by Ari Bert". Following below is an excerpt. This is from Ari Bert but who knows his name? I am doing fine and want you to catch fish with me. A few years I will not take, even if you give them to me. I'm pretty much aware of things now, that it appears so, and that I am not, I want to film catching fish and I have to catch them first which doesn't seem a problem for me, but I want to show everybody I send this to. I think I have a problem and will bring it up a few times in the close future but i think you will and know you will ignore it and not think about it too much. I plan to catch fish and release them which on the one side has its mention but on the other side has no talk at all. I am sick now but will get better soon or sooner. The people I want and plan to imitate are Chris and Neil and me, and I will imitate or make them seem to be with me, with Justin, Tania, Jonti, Craig-o and Gavin. Gwen and her sister Gaelle will also help me imitate them. This was written by Ari Bert who has plans that will be finished soonish. |

When I heard the description of his accident, I'd assumed he was a goner. Nice to be proven wrong so thoroughly. I'd always enjoyed Ari's posts and pics and I'm glad to know that may continue. If it doesn't, it's still wonderful that he's made so much recovery so quickly. Thanks for passing it on to us, Tim. Cyli r.bc: vixen. Minnow goddess. Speaker to squirrels. Often taunted by trout. After many ins and outs from the hospital, he finally (after about a year) stopped buttering the coffee maker, quit slicing tomatos with a wooden spoon, and sat facing the right direction when watching TV. He's back near the 80% mark now, which as good as it's going to get. Oh, I almost forgot - he's also driving again, so watch out Bill and Danl, he's in your neighborhood! -- TL, Tim ------------------------ http://css.sbcma.com/timj |

One hand on the cell phone, one hand wrapped around a 128 oz. Starbuck's Lots-o-Latte, one hand filled with a Breakfast Jack, and one hand changing the XM Radio station. Somehow I don't believe that *all* of these folks have had brain surgery, but many probably should. Danl, the only sane one in the bunch.....well, 'cept for Bill.... |

I seem to recall leaping off a cliff with you about a year ago (and a big ol' cliff at that) to chase a few little fish. I also remember that you were way too cheerful on the hellacious crawl back up that cliff. Where sanity is concerned, I respectfully decline to play. As for Tim's step-dad, I'm glad that he's doing so much better. My 85-year-old-almost-blind-and-quite-deaf-father-in-law still sneaks out from time to time in his car. Maybe the two should carpool... Cheers, Bill |

I've driven with him, and I can only believe that doing the above might just improve the situation. Be on the lookout for a burgundy DeVille (what else?) and a guy with a concave feature in his forehead. To say the reflexes are a bit slow is understatement to the extreme. It's amazing they gave him back his license. -- TL, Tim ------------------------ http://css.sbcma.com/timj |
