Results: Skeeter Bass Champs at Lewisville Lake

Robby Rose Dominates Bass Fishing Tournament Again

Skeeter Bass Champs North Texas Team Trail held their third stop on
Lake Lewisville April 16. The lake was barraged with 220 boats heading
out to win almost $70,000 in cash and prizes.

Fishing alone, Robby Rose pulled in the only sack over 20 lbs, and won
his third brand new Skeeter SX200 / Yamaha 200 V-Max bass rig from Bass
Champs valued at $34,000.

Rose managed a 20.10 lb sack, a full four pounds ahead of 2nd place.
"The shad have been spawning all over the lake. During practice, I got
on a crankbait pattern and relied on it coming into the tournament. I
was throwing an Excalibur Fat Free Guppy in a shad pattern on the North
end at a secondary point and caught a couple early on it. That pattern
diminished, and I had to scramble. The wind picked up and the shallow
water warmed so I headed south. I went behind the marinas and fished
along the walkways. I knew when the water warmed up the big fish would
get there. It was a real funny bite, they didn't want a moving bait. I
started dead sticking a watermelon red Senko with a swivel 1 foot above
the hook. It was a working pattern, and I was able to finish up my
limit."

Robby Rose still holds the Bass Champs record for largest stringer
brought in at a Bass Champs event. Last year he broke the record,
weighing in just over 33 pounds at Lake Lewisville.

Wayne Nolan and Brian Bell took home $5,000 in this event. The first
$4,000 was for their 2nd place finish, weighing in at 16.08 lbs. They
won another $1,000 for Big Bass honors. Bell caught the big bass and
she weighed in at 6.50 lbs.

"That's not bad for a 62-year-old man!" exclaimed Nolan. "The weather
was absolutely marvelous, and the Lord blessed us with five good fish."

This is their best Bass Champs win so far, and they did it by throwing
a Carolina rigged watermelon lizard off of main lake points. "The bite
was really strange today. Real light bite. We caught 10 fish total, but
only five were keepers. At 11:00, we still didn't have a fish in the
boat. I was getting kind of worried there for a while." He added that
the best time of the day to catch fish came between 12-2:00.

The North team trail has averaged 263 teams per event so far this
season. The participation keeps coming on strong, and the payback just
keeps growing with it. Twenty new teams were added to the roster, and
there was an abundant crowd present to cheer them on.

The next North Texas Team event will be May 14th on Cedar Creek at Log
Cabin. There are only two events left in this division, the last will
be June 25th on Tawakoni at the State Park. Entry fees are only $260
per team, and that includes Big Bass! $60,000 is guaranteed in cash and
prizes at every event, regardless of the entries. Top 25 places are
guaranteed at all qualifying events. Additional places and cash is paid
at each event based on participation. The tournament trail is open to
all boat brands, and there is no limit to field size.
