Friend of mine and I went wade fishing weekend before last. I caught my
first keeper spec and keeper red on live shrimp (no particular manufacturer but one day the shrimp were from Corpus and one day the shrimp were from Galveston). I'd complain that Ernie's Too raised their price to $16/qt but I wouldn't want to plug them or how good their hot burgers are mid-day between cold water wading shifts. Didn't catch much on artificials but I guess I can't say we were using sal****er assassins. Or that we were wade fishing off a SeeDoo jet ski. Or that I was using new Shakespeare gear and by not using Stren braided line, I caught 1/10th of what my friend caught. However, I was glad to use my new stringer but I probably shouldn't mention that I bought it at Wal-Mart. We were close to San Luis Pass (though for non-commercial reasons I won't get you any closer by saying where we were in relation to the pier since the pier charges money to get in). Actually, since we are going back out this weekend, I really can't say where exactly we were because the buddy with the boat would toss me off the back end of the jet ski (again) for telling :) Is it commercialisation to mention Ernie's Too? How else would a fisherman know where to buy bait or that the price had gone up? Hmmm... Good fishing, all! John |

Speaking of that, my crappy little newsgroup reader (would hate to mention
the brand) is set to only keep posts for 2 weeks. Looking through the couple dozen threads left, ALL but one thread has been "commercialised" according to the spam definition of our current NG police squad. Maybe they should just shut down the whole she-bang? Since we obviously can't post without promoting something. John T. HaHa I hear ya. Is it wrong to tell you that we keep the newsgroup

John Over 7,000+ Reel, Engine and Trolling Motor Schematics www.hookandsinker.com Good reading and yes, I suspected you had your tongue planted firmly in cheek, but I kinda agree with the spamcops, I could care less what somebody is selling, if they come here and the ONLY reason they post is to promote something they will profit from, screw 'em, let 'em buy advertising somewhere, I don't want to read it here. But it sounded like a pretty cool fishing trip, never fished off a jetski, but I'd like to try sometime. As far as finding old posts, use Google and search the groups thru there, you can find anything. Ed And to keep this somewhat on topic, I went to a trout tourney Saturday, opening day, with my kids, shoulder-to-shoulder fishing, caught nothing, if that was what fishing was like, I'd never want to do it......went to our local reservoir yesterday and caught bluegill till we'd had enough, then went home. That was more like it. A few more measly degrees in the ocean water, and my striped friends will be back. WooHoo! |

Went out to a Corona Lake here in SoCal and caught 13 steelhead and 3
catfish, the steelhead there run about 10lbs and up. Best bait is earthworm, blown up works best. If you want to have a great time you should try it if it is in your area, admission is $18 and you don't need a fishing license, you can fish 24 hours there, unlike normally at other california lakes there are set times the lakes are open and very very few will allow any night fishing. Fishing off a jet ski is a trip! I even got to drive a little this trip :)
After a day of wade fishing in chest deep water, tho, it can be pretty hard to get back on. But, there is no way we could have got to the deep spot and waded shallow onto a reef from the shore. He has an aluminum angle iron square stuck out the back with an ice chest bolted to it. Holds ice and fish and cold drinks and makes a second seat on the rare ocassion that we drift fish. He also has two rod holders bolted to each side of the ice chest. A little anchor, bait bucket. Oh, and get this: rather than having an aerator, he gets a small medical oxygen bottle. With a small enough valve, it lasts years and our shrimp lasted two days. Pull the bait out of the water, drop the stone in, turn the O2 on, motor to the next spot, turn it off. And he velcros the oxy tank up under a handle so it is out of the way. Lots of storage under the front 'hood' and seat. But, still, I got a charlie horse in BOTH legs at the end of the second day trying to get back on it in 4' of water. My dad was saying we could do that with his canoe and I'm like...well, not all day or we won't be able to get back in! John "Ed White" wrote in message ... "yellowchaser" wrote in message ... They are also considered as a toy here on the waters in california but
that is mainly because there are fewer waters and more fishermen which makes up for fishing traffic jams on the lakes. I've acually been to a lake and there were so many people on the water that there was zero shorline visible with the exception of a small patches, so I loaded up and left without even getting a line wet. Now you mix that with jetskis and well you can see what can happen. But I can see where in many areas this would be a great way to get around especially in the southern states where I grew up and there is an abundant supply of rivers and lakes. This would be a great way to reach some out of the way places easily, especially since the draft on jetskis is usually on about 1-2 foot at the most. I'v owned and ridden several over the years, and actually did use one of them for some bay fishing back in the day. I have been wanting an old jet ski for years just so I can use the pump for a jet jon. With a jet ski/jon you can get where everyone else can't. I plan on going up the Pee Dee river from US 74 to Rocky River and then to Richardson Creek (which is near my house) when/if I ever get mine built. No prop driven boat can make that journey and it will tough in a jet jon. If'n I was a rich man I would just buy me a new jet ski and use it for fishing. It's the only thing they're good for anyway. Getting in the shallows. Anything else is just annoying. |
