Yeah - that "reasoning" is severely lacking forethought.

It certainly appears so in this case. I'm sure the intent was to keep
the government from infringing on the rights of private companies to do
business, similar to the final years of the WPA, but this act seems
misguided. Since most of the private weather forecast providers get
direct feeds from the NWS, I'm not sure what was driving this action.
Weird.

This has been around a few weeks now. In fact I just mentioned this
in the PA bear thread. AccuWx is a PA company and would stand to
gain from this bill in a huge way. Of course, AccuWx would still use
the info from the non-public, but publically funded NWS to sell back
to us. Sucks.
