Default Lower HFork access

There have been some changes to access along the Henry's Fork near Vernon
bridge. These changes should help to greatly ease tensions between the
land owners and anglers. We can thank the Henry's Fork Foundation for
helping to defuse a situation that looked like it might cause land owners to
reverse long standing policies of allowing access to some great water.

IF you fish this area, or plan to go there, take a look at

Wow the HF Foundation is really the best. I think it was RW with me
when we noticed that the boat launch access and "parking area" on the
West upstream side of the Ora bridge near Ashton was now closed. It's
still pretty easy to park and fish the area if the flow is appropriate
for a wading angler, but all those with boats really lost a great spot
to launch. Thanks for the link Larry.

I remember that, too. Has it really been closed for 24 months, as the
article implies? If a big section of the river has been closed to boats
for two years, the fishing could be spectacular.

I might be wrong, but I don't believe the boat launch at Ora has been
closed. There has been some access changes at that spot because of true
abuses to land owner's property. But, I'm nearly certain that boats can
still be launched at Ora, but maybe differently than in the past.

The water from Aston Dam down to Vernon is closed except in general season
..... which would mean that the Ora launch would be closed then too, so maybe
you were there in the closed period?

The new access is just a little down stream from Vernon bridge in an area
that has been used for years but without any developed parking or ramp.
The spot just upstream from the bridge that was used by boaters ( not really
a developed ramp ) will be closed as it was on private land. The new ramp
and parking definitely don't open up any places that have been closed.

I believe rw's dreams of fishing areas that have been closed are just that
.... dreams g .... the 24 months was a reference to the time period that
has seen access tensions really building, not a period of actual closure
The only true closure has been Seely's takeout downstream of both bridges
..... and that was recently not two years ago

We were there when the river was open and the whole area was fenced off
with big "No Trespassing" signs.

Ok, I called and asked. The way you used to launch, ( coming from Ashton )
by crossing the bridge and going down on that flat to the right IS closed
( I was told fishermen used the farmers pump house as an outhouse ... so
much for fly fishers being 'better' ). NOW you launch on the left before
the bridge ... there is a parking area you enter and then a road down to the
water and launch ramp. I ain't checked it out in person, but the guy I
called should know. I'll be there in a week and take a look, I want to
wade fish above the Ora bridge anyway.
