I am currently living in San Diego and am moving to Baltimore in August. I am moving to Canton and would like to know where the best places to fish are. I would especially like to sal****er fish (although interested in both). Does anyone know where the closest spots are, what to use, etc.? Any helpful links? Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help. | | -- | Banjo5k Having been born and raised in Canton (Im 42) and fished and crabbed the area most of my young adult life I know the area pretty well. Around Canton itself you will find very few of the old places to fish, worth fishing, still available. I say still available rather than still there because of course the Wharf is still there, but for the most part inaccesable. With the coming of the Gentrification of Maryland Condo's have been put up and marina's built in areas which the local residents used to fish and crab. There are still a LOT of places within a relatively short driving distance but you wont find much in the Canton-Fells Point-Patterson Park area. Fort Howard is a good spot, as is the power plant out in Baltimore County. There are plenty of good spots in Essex, Sparrows point, Edgemere, anywhere arond the Bay Bridge area. When I was back 6 months ago, at the Korean War memorial (IN Canton) that part of the Wharf was still accessable but I didnt see anyone fishing there. The piers at Clinton Street are a good place to crab, or used to be. Fishing them we used to catch pretty much nothing but eels. Big eels, and Elwives. There is also the Patapsco River, Lake Roland, Loch Raven Dam and Resorvoir (Great for Crappy fishing), and probably the best freshwater fishing in the area about 40 miles outside BC is Conowingo Dam on the Susquehana River. Great for everything, fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, biking, everything. |
