Default Probabaly the oldest world record in sport has just been broken

In 1895, Alexander Grant set a world record spey cast of 195 feet.
That ain't a typo -- 1895. Despite all of our fancy graphite and PVC
technology, we couldn't eclipse this mark that he set with a
greenheart rod and a continuous taper silk line.

This past week in England at the CLA game fair, Scott MacKenzie
shattered the record with a 204' cast. Only took 110 years to do.

He used a Daiwa 18' rod and a stock XLT line with running line added.

That's all very nice, but you know, under actual on-stream fishing
conditions, I've found that casts over 150 feet are rarely necessary.

Ahh, the whine of everyone who can't cast. Sounds like you're in
need of casting lessons . . . . 150' is like, so yesterday.

Yeah, yeah, let us know when he bowls 300 and we'll
break out the pitchers of beer.

If you serve Bud no doubt he'd hold up at 299.

Splork!- though I'm not sure he'd want to risk a faulty tape - think I'd
hold up more like 199 - just to be safe.

How appropriate! It turns out that it took exactly 110 years to make the
original 195+ foot silk line!

Nah, that's his older brother. They always said he wouldn't amount to
much . . .
