Leader material help.

Sightfree G3, very strong for diameter, have landed fish over 6 pounds on

Hi all,

I have just bought some Orvis Super Strong tippet material for making
leaders, x3 x5 and x8.

I am using the standard recommended blood knot to join the lines together,
the trouble is the x5 and x8 snaps at the knot point, given the slightest
hand pressure.

I am taking this Orvis crap back to the shop ASAP, hoping for a refund

Prior to this I had been using bog standard mono as used by coarse fishers
but thought I would be clever and buy the fly stuff as it looked much

Who makes the best tippet material these days ?.

I also use Sightfree. I use one continuous length for the leader and
simply tie in any droppers where I want them using the water knot.
This in my experience is far better than building the leader using
separate lengths. If I need a tapered leader then I use a bought
tapered leader and again knot any droppers needed. I would personally
never use a blood knot for joining two lengths of nylon. It is
important with any knot tp moisten it before pulling it tight.

Hi Smudge
If I have to join leaders in any way I always use the water knot. In
the illustration you use I would, if I needed a dropper, use the end
of the tapered bit to form the top dropper.I have found the blood knot
very unsafe.
I would add that I mostly fish reservoirs and use 8lbs Sightfree
straight through with droppers also of 8lbs. It's no thicker than
"old" 6lbs mono and I don't like to leave a hook in a fish and where I
fish there are some double figure fish lurking about - in fact going
tomorrow or should I say today as I've just looked at the clock.
