![]() The End of Year "King of The Hill" tourney took place today on Mountaintop Lake in Long Pond P.A Tim, Dave and I started out at 6 a.m this morning with a 11 a.m weigh in. Now this tourney a bit different than the others, In order to weigh a bass, it needed to have a partner fish, crappie, sunny, bluegill or pickerel would suffice. I prefished a bit yesterday morning with Tim and found fish suspending in 14 feet of water, We tried jigs, wacky rigs suspending jerkbaits and just about everything else without a bite. I switched over to split shot rigged soft plastics and caught two nice bass. That was my stratedgy for today. By 7 a.m I had my first keeper, a bit over 2lbs I thought. Now I needed a partner fish. The bass was the easy part, catching those panfish or pickerel proved most difficult, but I managed a crappie a short time later and now had a bass to weigh. I figured my best bet was to catch 4 more panfish, then go for the bass. That didn't work out well as I threw a variety of beetlespins and small grubs without as much as a nibble. Hmm back to bass fishing. I was going to head into the back cove where Dave went earlier as he had not come out yet and I figured he was on fish. Just then I hear Tim yell "Wooo Hooo" I turn and look and sure enough he has a keeper on off the point I was fishing. I turned back figuring there might be a few more out in that deeper water. I cast a split shot rigged Fluke out and was hit hard, I set the hook and sure enough I had my second bass of the day. I now needed another partner fish, which I wound up getting on a suspended jerkbait off a windblown point, a nice pickerel. Back to bass fishing with not too much time left. I didn't feel too good about my chances but my two fish held up to take the King Of The Hill at 4 pounds 15 ounces. Dave took lunker with 1 fish at 3.10. His only other fish was a 12 inch bass, but it needed to be used as his partner fish so it could not be weighed. Had he been able to catch 2 panfish he would of been able to weigh both, but still would have fell short by about 5 or 6 ounces. Tim also caught 1 bass around a pound and a half, but again no partner fish disqualified his bass. We are chipping in for a plaque that will go to whoever wins over the years and have their name engraved on it each year. I plan on keeping it for a few years :-).. I'll post pictures a little later |
