Just got back.
Taylor Lake was choked full of weeds and shallow, 3 feet max. I got a lot of small bass and stripers though on a topwater Zara "Puppy". Also I got lots of small striper on same lure and in the main river(image 5) I tossed a Fat Free Shad crankbait and reeled it against the current next to that rock face for some bass and stripers. Biggest fish was a striper about 2 pounds. -- ~~SHRED http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/image003.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/image001.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/image004.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/image005.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/image002.jpg |

The grass beds are all dieing right now so a lot of the bass have moved out of the grass. The water has been low so I have not run as far upa s Taylor Lake. But I would figure furhter up river the grass would be further along towards winter levels (dead) than down. I fished a torunament yesterday,a nd lots of peopel only weighed in a couple fish including some good anglers I have a lot of respect for. On the flip side the weathewr has been phenomanal. A little cool before sunrise. I actually wore a jacket yesterday, but really nice alld ay long. We had an over cast on Thursday down river that provided for a slow, but steady topwater bite most of the day. When the sun finally popped out around 1:00 PM the topwater bite finally died. Anyway, the bass I have found in the grass for the last week have been small with a few small keepers, and the action with them has been pretty slow. Sounds like you did great under the current circumstances. I haven't caught many stripers lately down river, but I have not been targeting them much. I have heard a couple reports of stripers being back in the lakes where youa ren't used to seeing them. I think that is because of the higher waters and increased water releases this spring. I think more smalls tripers came down fromt he big canyon lakes up river. Still not a lot of size to them down here, but I know of one 12 pounder caught int he river, and another angler reported getting into a school of them that ran 6-8 this summer. This summer I caught hundred of them in 6-14" range with the kids when fun fishing. -- Bob La Londe Novermber Fishing Photo Contest Through the Month of October 2005 http://www.YumaBassMan.com |
