Default Slow retrieve/low gear ration reels?

Winter fishing is here, and I ALWAYS retrieve much too fast. I can't seem to
stop after 55 + years of doing it. Is there a slow retrieve/low gear ratio
baitcasting reel that is of decent quality, in a price range around $150.00
or less?

Shimano ( my first choice) doesn't seem to offer one, in either round or low
profile. If one can't be found, is there a decent quality spinning reel
that would be around 4/1 or less?
Thanks,

Rich,

Go to eBay.com right now. Here's an auction of a Curado 200 with a 3.8:1
retrieve ratio.

Thanks Steve, with that information, I was able to find the same item, new,
at BassPro for only $99.99. I see the first bid on Ebay is at 79.99. If I
get into a bidding war with someone, I MIGHT save ten bucks or so.... and
then pay shipping......

I have to make up a list for the kids to buy ME something for Christmas, so
I'll just put the BassPro details on it!
Thank you very much.....

Why not just strip half the line off one of your existing reels? I have
a reel in my hand with a 6:1 ratio. It retrieves 26" of line per turn of
the reel handle with a full spool. That's 4.25" per revolution of the
spool. If I strip off line until the spool diameter is 1.1", it
retrieves less than 21" per revolution.

RZ, a very good idea, and one that I actually had considered.

However, much like the rest of you guys, I like new toys too. The kids have
to buy me something ( it is a RULE around here ) so this will work out a lot
better than some sweater. When I fish this morning, I may try the "less
line" process! RG

I personally think that by pulling off the line you might be sacrificing
some casting distance as well, though I'm unsure. Reel physics (or any
other kind for that matter) isn't my forte...lol.

Oh, I have no doubt that I will lose casting distance if I pull half the
line off. That is just another GOOD reason to get a new toy!

My other most-often-used reels are all Chronarchs with 5 to 1 ratios. I'm
afraid that another 5 to 1 won't help this old soul.

Steve from Wisc's suggestion is a good one. I've already put in my order
with the family Santa Claus hot-line. RG
