Default Reel Question

Guys,

I have a couple of Zebco Cardinal 4 reels that I have had since the 70's
and I really love them. I am looking for a new spinning reel to put on
an ultralight rod. I checked out new Cardinal 4 reels and sadly found
out that they are made in China now and not Sweden like my old favs.
Does anybody know when they quit making Cardinals in Sweden? The only
thing that I don't like about my Cardinals is they don't have an anti
reverse without clicking...

thanks for any responses

BD

Default Reel Question

Abu made the Cardinal spinning reels for Zebco, In the later 70's or
early 80's Abu marketed a Abu Garcia Cardinal which was made in
Japan..they were black, with skirted spools and of high quality.. I
have 2 Abu Cardinal 3's, I don't use them any more because of small line
roller which causes line twist..IMO todays reels are much better..

AJH,

thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I just hate to buy from China, do you

recommend a brand?

thanks,
BD

Default Reel Question

No much choice about buying stuff made in China, a lot of rods and reels
are being made in the Far East, I bought a new Abu PGS 3600C baitcaster
and it was made in Korea...I think the Japanese make the best quality
reels now..

Crownliner,

I have seen those prices and have no intention of getting rid of them! Like I
said, the only
complaint I have is the lack of an anti-reverse, without clicking. I have
packed a lot of grease
around the "clicker" and have lowered the clicking sound to not be so annoying.

thanks,
BD

Default Reel Question

i have a few zebco(two tone) cardinal 4 reels that will not die, have
NEVER let me down, year in year out coast to coast. they keep on
going and going- the energizer bunny of spinning reels as far as i am
concerned- i have all the respect in the world for the venerable older
garcia mitchell 300's, 308's, 408's, etc although i have only owned a
308 for a short while. the proof is in the fishing.

Bail return springs can be a problem on them, all the guys I know that still
use them have sucked up all the spares years ago. Great little reels.

I have a 3 and a 4. The 4 never gave me any trouble, but the 3 was (is) a
bad line twister when I used 6# and 8#, but is OK with 4#. These things, I
believe, have somewhat of a cult following, but I'm happier with a newer
reel that has silent anti-reverse.
