oar locks

Does anybody know how i can make oar locks for a small aluminum boat? I was
wondering if i could put something like a thwart (detachable) right across the
beam of the boat. Then have the oar locks some how incorporated into this
thwart. Thanks

You can bolt these sockets onto the sides of your boat, then insert
oarlocks when needed. Go he

I should have said sockets. Thank you. I believe a thwart is the cross member
on a canoe. You can use it to carry the canoe. I don't want to damage my boat
by installing the sockets. I guess it is okay since it is above the waterline
where you install them.

The thick flat spot at the top edge of your boat, also called the gunnel. In
older wood boats it also served the purpose of stiffening the edge and
usually installed with stand off blocks to leave an open slot between it and
the boat's skin to help lighten and dry the boat surfaces. Oarlocks were
usually flush mounted into the thwart with the locks pin on the oar dropping
into a blind hole in the brass fixture.
