Subject says it all. It is a guarded top secret matter, but what is the

Ask her yourself:
http://www.rainysflies.com/index.html

She sells fly tying materials, so I doubt it will be too much of a
secret.

Why don't you at least post a link of the fly your asking about?

Rainy's pics are not loading right now... So I'm guessing here.

or

Looks like it's made from rocks....I made one like this once.. it's a bit of
work.

You can build up the body a bit.. then coat on epoxy.. dip it into small
pebbles and scrunch them into shape.
You can then touch up with epoxy again later and add the peacock herl.

It's a ton of work... and unless you build the body well to begin with it
will all rotate around the hookshank.

Check out:

Maybe you can get the caddis larvae to do the work for you.

It's made, obviously, from pepples. I experimented with this fly
several years ago and came to the conclusion that it isn't worth all
the trouble to "tie" it.

I coated the hook shank with epoxy and dipped it into the smallest
pepples I could find - more like sand, actually. It took at least two
dippings and a final coat of clear or sparkling fingernail polish to
finish the body.

I fished it for several days on two different rivers without much
luck. A far better example of a caddis casing is the Strawman as
pictured in LaFontaine's "Caddisflies". It is simply spun deer hair,
clipped irregularly, and weighted to sink it. Or, do not weight it
and fish it on the surface. Brook trout go crazy for it.

Tying instructions/pictures at:
http://www.flyanglersonline.com/feat...da/can284.html

I do not clip it that smooth, however.

I usually fish it on the surface, but add a beadhead and it is just as
successful down deep.

Dave
