Default Frank, SA X Waterproof Fly Box question?

Frank Reid, I think it was you who posted info about the 3M SA System X
Waterproof Fly Boxes in another post. I pulled up the SA website and I like
the idea of the clear see-though design and layout, and will order a few
boxes, but I have a question that wasn't covered in the website:

http://www.3m.com/us/home_leisure/sc..._systemx.jhtml

Standard (green)
Dry Fly (Yellow)
Streamers/Sal****er (Light Blue)

Is there anything different about the yellow foam used for "dry flies"
Something special in the foam to keep the flies dry?
thanks,
-tom

It's a matter of spacing of the foam strips, Tom. The streamer one
would have bigger spacing than the dry or standard.

Ok, thanks Dave,
I thought perhaps the dry fly yellow box had some special magic foam.

The Orvis water-proof boxes that I directed Dave to yesterday did say that
the foam was specially treated to prevent rusting--I believe.

I could be wrong, but the yellow foam looks like a synthetic chamois type
material to keep the flies dry, or drier. Perhaps this is why 3M/SA calls
the yellow, the "dry fly box"?

I just bought two SA System X boxes yesterday. The yellow you speak
of is not the foam, but rather the space where the body of the fly
sits. The white (actually grey) section is the foam part that hold
the point of the hook.

Yes, you are correct Dave, I ordered one also (yellow box) and when I called
to place the order, they told me the same thing about the yellow is just the
space for the body of the fly. Nice boxes btw, glad Frank posted the
suggestion on the SA System X fly box. Did you notice some have a very
clear see-through plastic and some don't?

The boxes themselves are all clear see-through plastic, or at least
the ones I saw/bought. I wanted to buy the luggage piece that will
hold 4 inserts, but the fly shop was out. Will have to order them,
probably through ezflyfish.com (Waldo's shop).

Dave I saw that luggage holder for the x-box at the San Jose Fly Shop and
didn't like it.
It's very flimsy and in my opinion didn't think it was worth the price, but
it does float.
You may want to look at one first before you buy it....or I suppose you can
always send it back.
