Fishing. If you would please respond answers to the following
questions.
Why did you choose Fly Fishing as a hobby?
What is the best equipment for entry level to experience fly
fishing?
What is the very best experience you have had fly fishing? Where was
it?
What is the very worst experince you have had fly fishing? Why?
Have you ever fished the Logan River? What was your experience like?
I sure appreciate your input on this topic, as I am just barely

because I love being in, on or near water. Also because of its zen
qualities - fly fishing can be both simple and complex.

entry level: a 5-weight outfit if you're starting out in rivers &
lakes. Something a little heftier if you're beginning in salt water
(7-weight).

best experience: catching my first fish on a fly (half pound bass!) at
a local river.

worst experience: hooked a PELICAN(!) - while fishing in Florida - it
must have caught a glimpse of my clouser minnow and DOVE FOR IT.
Flapping wings. Squawking. Tangled line. What a nightmare.

never fished Logan.

good luck & remember to catch & release.

I didn't, really. I chose spin casting for trout, which I mistakenly
thought were all hatchery fish in my area. Then of my rod went
kablooey on me and I went to the nearest hardware store and ran across
a fly line. I used the fly line on an old bait rod, without a reel,
and had a lot of fun.

fishing?

Anything. The cheapest Cabela's setup will do for a starter.

What is the very best experience you have had fly fishing? Where was
it?

Standing in cold water up to my knees on a beautiful 90 F day in
southeastern MN. Didn't catch a thing. But the evening flight of the
turkey buzzards was great to watch from there.

What is the very worst experince you have had fly fishing? Why?

Weather so hot and humid that even with my legs in cold water I could
hardly breathe. Didn't catch anything that day, either.

Have you ever fished the Logan River?

No.

What was your experience like?
I sure appreciate your input on this topic, as I am just barely
learning to fly fish myself.
Thanks.

Often taunted by trout. Almost entirely harmless.
Really.

Although there are many ways to catch fish, I look at fly-fishing as a
medium which requires a lot of skill, patients and discipline. Fly-fishing
is not for everyone and makes up a small percentage of the fishing world,
but for those who take the time to master the art will find it quite
rewarding.
To me fly-fishing is relaxing, it's a passion for me to escape from the
realities of everyday life as I practicing my casting twice a day and test
my skills when I do get on the water. There are no shortcuts, what you put
into it, is what you'll get out of it.

For entry level I would recommend a 9' 5wt fly rod with a reel that would
house 5 weight-forward line to start with. I still use a very inexpensive
from today's standard fly-rod, something I got attached to...sometimes it's
not about the price. Again these are my own personal views, as others may
have other suggestions.

Out in the middle of nowhere on a river by myself, soaking in the beauty of
the surroundings.

Never had a bad outting, as I make it a point to always enjoy getting out,
even if I don't catch fish.

Have you ever fished the Logan River? What was your experience like?

Never been there, but do enjoy if you go.

I sure appreciate your input on this topic, as I am just barely

Good luck with your paper and at Utah State University and hope you have
some great experiences in Fly-fishing.

Hobbies are something you do becasue they get your mind off other
things.Fly fishing is fun and you do it in beautiful places. When
your not fishing you can read about, build rods, tie flys or waste time
on a newsgroup about fly fishing.
Fishing in general requires one to be an optimist. It''s about hope and
belief in things unknown and unseen. Putting your faith and trust in
things unseen and unknow is good for you. Just getting outside can
can recharge your soul. Being made a fool of by a beautiful but dumb
fish can put that sense of aw in the right prespective.

Do you think she's stalking us? :-)

The thing that's amazed me is that so many people answered her
sincerely. Blatant term-paper research in ROFF hasn't been tolerated for
years. In the day of searchable Usenet archives (thanks, Google),
there's no excuse for such an intrusion. They used to be common.

I've assumed she was cleverly touting the Logan River, and that the
joke's on ROFF. :-)

Well, there could be part of the paper on watershed usage, its impact
on the river/economy. My daughter just got second place in a statewide
competition for college level journalists. They were given a general
topic and two hours, no phone nor Internet usage allowed. You gather
as much info as possible and go.
Hell, I did a marketing paper on a brick (the waste product fly ash was
used instead of cement). One of my side notes was that the brick
weighed less and so could reduce repetative stress injuries in masons
(though not shriners in clown cars).
Mayhaps, if we ask real nice, she'll post the paper here.
