Just posted a few pics from this year's clave. Nothing too exotic, only
pulled the camera out at one site. Just want to send thanks out to everyone out who made it out this year. It was a banner year for Bugs, and cooperative feeding trout, as it is every 3 or 4 years, which is what keeps us coming out. Spent a bunch of time in the Coburn area this year, got to fish with DavePA first day in, and along with Jeff, Joel, and Tom over the weekend with Mike Shaw getting in late. First few days were overcast with showers and that seemed to work very well with the sulfur hatchin, albeit 3-4 different flavors. Fished the spots I had planned out during the week, and much more. Only grazed Inglesby this year, with a walk in from the Coburn trestle, also above the trestle with Tom, on the turn between the Trestle and Stan's with Mike/Tom (fish really came up those nights..). The Axelrad stretch was hard to bypass this year with the drakes coming off first there and got the largest fish of the trip up there. I think we fished with everyone here on a few visits. Explored newly opened water which we didn't fish, but I will return to at the end of the month. Big Fishing Creek with Jeff, Mike, Tom was a nice outing and very successful (again the sulfurs....what else). Witnessed Tom catching some beauties there. Elk Creek with Tom one day, and Mike another, yep those sulfurs. Blue Rock Day with Mike was another premium day and dynamite was needed to get me out of there. Had a very large fish (would have approached 25) take me Every Which Way.....And Loose for what seemed an eternity until he managed to slip the fly. Mike lost a beauty there shortly thereafter. Had several others feeding right in front of me that proved too elusive (reminded me of those fish in Jeff/Walt's Run a few years back). Revisited Blue Rock the last day in, trying to pick off the others, and managed a few of there friends, but the rest will have to wait til later this month. Met up with Bruce later in the day and he took us over to some private water that was to die for. Took us a while to figure out the lay of the land, but landed several nice trout, a couple of smallies, and many others surrounding me that will require a revisit also. At the end of the night Mike got into one of those particularly stingy fish that had been mocking both of us, good way to end the trip. Saw many odd ball bugs yet again. I think a Yellow drake (yellow wings, yellow body), Orange Cahills, Light Cahills, Dark Green caddis, and others were mixed in with the usual crowd of suspects. Also a thanks to Joel for the Western Clave Preparatory books (Charles Brooks books and the map), I'm just about through them already, but plan on browsing back through for some trip planning. The map is cool, very sturdy, where did you get it again? Dave LaCourse was not in attendance, but thanks to you too Dave for the Yellowstone/Montana/Idaho books. Will get them back at you once I return. To Tom/Mike/Gene for Steak Night (and Barbaro of course), and other tidbits in between. If it hadn't been for you guys, and everyone else encouraging me to take time to go out for food, I would pretty much been on a Ham and Cheese diet most of the week. Just didn't want to get out of the water except to sleep. Brought a Duck Butt award along, but no one qualified this year (not even me). Raffle Book Night was a hoot. I have to say I was skeptical, but it seemed to work out perfectly for all, including my take of Tom's Dave Hughes book. Gave up a Landis PA Trout Streams First Edition, and a Fishing with Ray Bergman book, but it was well worth it. Good to see everyone yet again, we had a small crowd, but most of the die hards made it out. Pics are on ABPF, Mike |
