![]() Drew Cutter wrote: Could someone suggestion a mail order catalog for fly tying . I live in Ohio . (Michigan ,Ohio, Pennsylvanian , W.Va , N.C - where i will be Drew: Dan mentioned one of my favorites in Feather Craft in St, Louis. They are not especialy cheap, but their quality is top notch, and they have never screwed up an order of mine. I have been a happy customer for over a decade. Also, please don't **** off Opie cause he is one of the good guys. If you live somewhat close to the new Bass Pro Shop then you might want to get to know the guys who work in the fly shop and get them to help you choose tying materials and show you why each chosen pack is the correct one for you to buy. One of the more difficult things I found when starting in this hobby was how to choose the feathers that were best for me. Our local Bass Pro here in Grapevine, Texas has free tying classes on Wednesday evenings and free beginning fly fishing lessons on Saturdays and Sundays. You might want to check to see if something like that is available at that location as well. Big Dale |

![]() Drew Cutter wrote: I agree on the feathers part. I subscribe to a podcast that has video's on how to tie flies. Looks to be a fairly steep learning curb on how to pick materials for tying flies. You also might want to spend some time wandering around Mike Hogue's web site as well. Http://www.eflytyer.com. Mike has a lot of very useful information about selecting materials on his site. He runs Badger Creek Fly Tying and is another good guy. I have also been a customer of his for over a decade. Since I am giving up some pretty good web sites, you should also check out Http://www.Charliesflybox.com. Charlie has a great set of tutorials on his site that cover over 100 patterns. Also Harry Mason's site Http://www.troutflies.com. Harry does a great job of photography on his trout flies and has great tutorials. I found it much easier to learn after taking a tying class to get with a group that ties flies on a regular basis. It lowers the level of frustration to be able to ask"how do I do this?" and six guys show you different ways to get the same job done. This should keep you busy for a while. Big Dale |
