Does anyone use Berkley Vanish flouro?

I've started using it recently and find it quite useful.

Brendan, I have used it off and on during the year on the advice of a friend
who is a Pro Staff guy at Gander Mountain. I have learned to hate this
line.

Its not easy to tie up. It easily fouls on both baitcasters and spinning
reels. I don't notice any discernable advantage over a good quality mono -
at least in terms of the numbers of fish I catch. And finally, it is very
expensive. At the end of the season, which is rapidly approaching up here
in MI, I am going to change it out.

Vanish is absolute garbage compared to other fluorocarbons on the
market. I have used it for everything from bluegill to King Salmon. In
the low ranges , such as 2 or 4lb test fishing for panfish it holds up
just fine (for me), but try and drop shot with 6 or 8lb Vanish and I get
nervous even setting the hook with it. I won't even go into flipping
with the heavier options (17, 20,etc.) (might as well use a braid anyway
, which I do).

I would spend a little more and try Seaguar Invisix, or P-Line
Fluorocarbon, or even Seaguar CarbonPro. I have heard good things about
Gamma's Fluoro, and Yozuri Hybrid. I believe some guys here use P-Line
fluoroclear, which is just a fluorocarbon coated copolymer.

No, I used it a couple times, and the only line I ever used that broke more
often for less reason was... Hmmm. Now that I think about it. There is no
line that was worse, but Spiderline Super Mono is close.

as far as pure flouro goes, it's one that I've had knot breakage with,
noticeably more than
others like PLine. (knot breakage may have actually been abrasion breaks).

Hey, sometimes you don't know until you try it or ask about it.

I also recommend Seaguar or P-Line over the Vanish, having tried all three
over the past few years. The only Berkley line that I use today is their Big
Game mono, in heavier weights (20lb-50lb) for ocean fishing (and as backing
on my bassing reels loaded with braid). Otherwise I like Power Pro for
braid, and P-Line for fluoro, and don't really use much mono for LM bass
fishing of late, instead I just use fluoro in-lieu. Works for me.

Do not know about now, but Vanish used to vary in size along the line. Was
why it broke in the middle, not near a knot. Local tackle store told me
this.

Seems others hate it but I have been using it since it came out and think it
is a very good line. I worm fish with it and like the way I can feel the
bottom much better than mono. My eyesight is not what it used to be and got
to where I could not see where the line met the water. Went back to
clear/blue Stren and never had the feel and less hookups with that. When
they came out with the Transition Vanish, I gave it a try and wont use
anything else. Most here sing the praises of braid, but I for one think it
is crap. If I were fishing waters where the grasss was heavy as some here
from the north do, then maybe I would use braid. Don't know. As far as
complaints about knot breakage on the Vanish, I have never had a knot to
fail. I always use a palomar, but I am very careful when I cinch it down.
People I know that do have knot problems have problems with all line(mono
and flouro) because they don't cinch it down right. At least that is what
the problem was when they fished with me. Different strokes for different
folks is what it boils down to.

Well, I cannot say I have ever done any control tests, but I have been
using Fluoro's for a long time now, and I went from one Fluoro to Vanish
to save some $$, and I have to say it is absolute garbage. I contacted
Berkley, and even they admitted that they had to improve the strength.
I know what you are saying about breaking at the knot, that does happen
if it is not cinched down correctly, but most of my Vanish breaks were
in the middle of the line. I cannot say I have reproduced the results
with the brands I mentioned earlier.
