Stuff like this happens in many places and always has...it's just that
now, thanks to the internet, everyone hears about every incident relatively quickly. |

Subject: Should they make life vests from Kevlar?
From: Henry Hefner Another shooting: http://tinyurl.com/2kbzo Funny, that's never happened to me here in TX. Of course it's always a good idea to boat armed, for snakes and such. Sally sells sea shells by the sea shore because rough men stand ready to do violence on her behalf. |

Just curious, why would you shoot snakes?

Having had a 5 foot cotton mouth come in my boat, the answer is simple, to protect my life,, but every snake in the water is not a cotton mouth, and every snake is not a threat to you. Last weekend we were cleaning up around our lake house when my nephew yelled snake, and ran to his truck for a gun,, I came around the house to see a perfectly harmless puff adder about 18 inches long, everyone was yelling for the nephew to shoot the snake, and I said no,, and showed them how well these little guys will play dead for them, even with their tongues hanging out of the mouth, not moving, I would flip him back on his belly,, he would roll back on his back and flop that tongue out, then totally motionless. I showed them how harmless he was, and how they had scared him to death,, there was no need in shooting him, as he was already dead,, everyone laughed, and they then left him alone. Perhaps I saved another harmless snake. People down here kill every snake they see,, they don't even want to take the time to learn the difference between those that will hurt you and those that won't, they just say only good snake, is a dead one. -- Rodney Long, Inventor of the Long Shot "WIGGLE" rig, SpecTastic Thread Boomerang Fishing Pro. ,Stand Out Hooks ,Stand Out Lures, Mojo's Rock Hopper & Rig Saver weights, Decoy Activator and the EZKnot http://www.ezknot.com |

I shoot poisonous snakes for the same reasons people pull poison Ivy or swat
mosquitos... it makes a ton of sense. Mother nature is more than welcome to replace them with the non-poisonous variety, and then we can all get along just fine. -- Bob Rickard (AKA Dr. Spinnerbait) www.secretweaponlures.com --------------------------=x O'))) "bill allemann" wrote in message m... I grew up working in my folks grocery store. It was in a rural area of the
desert. We routinely killed poisonous snakes for the safety of our customers. Later when I learned how tasty a rattlsenake is I always deep fat fcried the larger ones, and of coursed tacked out and dried the skins. I don't believe in wasting things if I can help it. -- Public Fishing & Boating Forums Fishing & Boating Link Index www.YumaBassMan.com "Bob Rickard" wrote in message m... It would be better if they made fishing vests of kevlar (bullet and stab
proof). I've had several incidents with wackos while night fishing. |
