I borrowed about 30 flies--tied by Al Troth John Foust and Dave
Whitlock--from Fred Nelson this morning. The photos (just finished) are at: http://montana-riverboats.com/Pages/.../Al_Troth.html http://montana-riverboats.com/Pages/..._Whitlock.html and http://montana-riverboats.com/Pages/...ohn_Foust.html None of these photos are annotated yet. That'll happen eventually. |

![]() John Faust--who owned and operated the Fish Haus fly shop in Hamilton--is well known here in Montana. The Ugly Rudamus and host of other such inventions are distinctly Faustian flies. John also helped popularize the MadamX (a Doug Swisher fly I think) much the same way Pat Barnes helped popularize the Goofus Bug (which later became known as the Humpy). John sold the Fish Haus a few years ago, but he's still an active guide and fly tier in Hamilton area. |

The orange bodies are made from closed cell eva (ethylvinylacetate) foam. The extended body version has the foam wrapped around stiff but hidden piece of plastic of some kind. Evazote is a brand name associated with eva foam. Eva foam does come in different densities. Evazote is not bad--it's not the heaviest eva foam out there--but it's not the lightest either. Eva foams can't be dyed with Rit, but they can be colored with solvent-based marking pens. |
