Default Need Advice with an Intruder?

Just thought I throw this out here to ROFF.
I got a problem with one of the anglers at the casting ponds.
He's a great caster, an old-timer but he intrudes by coming up to
other casters using the facilities and wants them to cast his way. We never
ask him for advice, he just intrudes. A few times he has grabbed the fly-rod
out of my hand to demonstrate without asking. I've also seen him do that to
others casters as well. I try to be polite, but I don't think he realize
what he's doing. He also goes on and on how he used to be a tournament
caster. I have expressed this problem with others at the casting pond,
they're also not sure what to do. I have thought of talking to him in a
nice way and not hurt his feelings, but I was told he's the type of person
who flies off the handle. I know it sort of sounds like an Ann Landers
thing, but thought I ask here first. Any suggestions?
fwiw,

If it happened to me, I would tell him politely but firmly, not to
touch my fly rod, and I would simply ignore anything he said. If he
persisted, I would become more firm and less polite, and if he "flew
off the handle". who cares?

Yep...you acknowledge he's a great caster (which lends credibility to
his being a former tournament caster), so maybe all you casting experts
might actually learn a little something by listening to what he has to
say...if you guys are simply too advanced to learn anything new, maybe
some novices might be interested in what sounds like free lessons from
someone who actually knows something about casting...

I doubt this will help,
R

Well, if he is a great caster, maybe it would be a good idea to listen
to him?

If he is really annoying people, then you have no sensible option
other than to tell him so, politely but firmly. He may be just lonely
and looking to make friends. It can be very difficult to fathom
motivations sometimes.

I'd ask him his name. If he said "Lefty Kreh," I'd listen real
carefully.
