Default Hatching midge/Hatching Mayfly

Question: I've tied up a bunch of HATCHING MIDGES and plan on tying some
HATCHING MAYFLY PMDs. ( from the book: Randall Kaufmann's "DRY FLIES") In
both cases the wingcase and shuck are made of CDC.

Can these be used with floatant or will it ruin them?

Lou

It will ruin them. Get a piece of Amadou and squeeze the flies
with it as needed.

Use the Amadou to dry them, and then brush in some Frog's Fanny, and
they'll float like a cork. Never use any other kind of floatant or it
will ruin the CDC.

BUT, most emerger patterns are designed to be half in, half out, of the
water ... be careful with that Frog's Fanny and only brush the "out" half
or you'll halve the effectiveness of the pattern
