Winter Fishing

What do people who fish in the winter do about
the guides icing up?
Is there any solution?

Dipping the rod in the water when the guides start icing usually works for me.
I've not tried to "solve" the problem beyond that because I don't want to mess
with the finish on my flyrods...

The deicing "solution" is called "antifreeze"

At least that's what they sell it in stores for :-)

Thanks but if you are serious...
wouldn't antifreeze on the guides result in antifreeze on the line
resulting in a rather unappetizing prentation as far as odor does?
For the same reason I discounted petroleum based oils.
Edible oils wuld probably work up to a point but I think they'd
harden.

Of course I was not serious

I was making a funny, you asked for a "deicing solution" ( a liquid
chemical combination, that prevents freezing ) The number one "solution"
made and sold for that, is antifreeze :-)

Since I don't ice fish down south, I really have never approached this
problem, I would try to keep water from sticking to the rod eyes,
perhaps spraying them with WD-40, or Reel Magic, might help, but I
really don't have a clue if it would work
