Short TR---just returned from short trip to NC mountains for a couple of
days hiking on my small {6 mile from parking up to Blue Ridge Parkway } brookie stream. Found the stream last year and had sort of adopted it as Joe's stream. Few locals visit, catch and release, single hook , in state forest etc. Looked up NC state wildlife records. Has been stocked for years, but no stock for last three years---last logging around stream16 years ago-- population of brookies studies by state three times in last ten years and is declining due to general drought in area-- stream generally 6 to 12 feet wide with lots of big rocks--fallen timber and perhaps a small pool every 30 yards. Damm hard wading for and aged indian but it was mid March and warm enough to wet wade ! -- sort of like heaven---with warm water just coming on I figured the fish were hungry so started with a 14 royal wuff--missed two hits nothing for awhile--changed to 14 yellow humpy and caught seven beauties in three hours of uphill crawling and climbing. The big boy was 7 inches long!!! Next morning while heading out to fish a little higher up stream I stopped by Brand New fly shop in Black Mountain and ask owner if he knew of any local brookie streams I might try-- he suggested " my "stream and said he had sent four guys up there last week and they had a good day---when I got to trail head there were three cars and no room for a fourth---Damm fly shop - |

Guy should be taken out at dawn and gently but firmly shot. Hope you're doin all right, Joe. - JR |
