Understanding how fish think is the key to successful fishing. There
is more to fishing than you might have first thought. To be more
precise, there's more to the fish themselves and how they think, than
you would have ever even considered.

We've never met, yet you have me pegged.

Well I was drunk the night my mom got out of prison ... and I went
to pick her up in the rain ... but before I could get to the station
in my pickup truck ... she got runned over by a damned ole train.

They are the ones that should apologize.

Indeed. I was lucky enough to see him perform live several times.
Besides being a fabulous songwriter, he was a joy to watch perform.
His enthusiasm was totally infectious, and he was an underrated guitar
player and vocalist.

Moments I remember:

Singing "The Ballad of Penny Evans" and having a crowd of 5,000+ so
quiet at the end that you could hear a pin drop.

Playing "City of New Orleans" when a string (or two) broke. He
just kept time with his foot, kept singing, unstrapped himself from
his guitar, grabbed another one and resumed playing without missing a
beat in the song.

Finally, singing "A Cubs Fan's last Dying Wish" when he was well
into chemo for leukemia, looking frail and already bald from the
treatment. Sensing that the song held even more meaning than usual.
In the same set he sang "The Dutchman", and I doubt there was a dry
eye in the house after that one.

He was gone less than a month later.

Chuck Vance (he truly was one of the good guys)

quote from the site, "Why having a cigarette while fishing can halve your
chances of catching anything. p.22"

Hmmm... I read an article by a guy that says his catch numbers have dropped
since he quit smoking. In the past, if he put a nice fish down with the
wrong fly, he would tie on another fly and light up. By then the fish would
get active again in the 5-10 minutes it took him to be ready again. That was
his theory, anyway.

Gene
Maybe in his lifetime, which may be shortened by his smoking habit, the
smokers catch might be halved - and both are true then.
