Three different doctors told me to walk two miles each day - it really
helps prevent it. I also take two advil every two to four hours,
starting about an hour before I start fishing. I used to not have a
seat on the front of my boat - I do now and sit down when my back
hurts, then stand back up when my butt hurts.

Ain't gettin old wonderful????

Default Back Pain

I'm sure not a medical specialist and not qualified to offer specific
advice, but I'll share what I learned years ago as a high school basketball
coach...

The cause and solution depends on where you're experiencing the spasms. Is
it between the shoulder blades? Lower back? Neck and shoulder? Each pain is
caused by over-use, unaccustomed movement, or hyper extension of some back,
chest, and shoulder muscles (common among anglers who are trying for maximum
casting range).

The remedy may include diet, stretching, general conditioning, and switching
up your posture and technique during the day to avoid repetitive motion
stress.

I used to experience deep tissue pain just to the right of my spine at about
shoulder blade height after several hours of casting. I learned that if I
put the elbow of my right arm inside the crook of my left arm and then
pulled my left forearm in toward my left shoulder, that would stretch my
right shoulder muscles and, more importantly, the right rhomboid major and
minor muscles enough to relieve the pain. If I stretched before I fished and
then occasionally during the day and varied my casting style, I could avoid
the pain altogether.

Joe

I get lower back pain when spending a long day fishing. I found that some
of it is being caused by the high foot pedal height of my trolling motor
foot control and standing with more weight being placed on one leg, causing
pressure on my lower back. Either getting a low profile foot control model,
a hand control model or recessing the foot control in a tray in the deck
will help quite a bit.
