![]() Hey guys, Planning our drive cross country and need to start reservations. Just wondering if anyone can suggest the best campground in Yellowstone for fishing access. I'm thinking the Madison campground, but that's just a guess because I know it's close to the Madison. Is there a better campground someone knows about in the park with make your coffee, poop, and fish availablity? Thanks for any suggestions. -- BIGBOW *Listen To The River Sing Sweet Songs To Rock My Soul...* ------------------------------------------------------------------------ BIGBOW's Profile: http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulleti...hp?userid=2050 View this thread: http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulleti...ad.php?t=13640 ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |

There are campgrounds at Slough Creek, Pebble Creek and Tower Falls in the NE corner of the Park. All have decent fishing within walking distance but they don't take reservations, all three are first-come, first-served. You might ask Jeffie about the fine accommodations at the so-called Fawn Lake. ;-) -- Ken Fortenberry |

I visit every year and don't stay at a campground IN the Park ... they are tightly packed, and a minimum of 14 miles from nearest store, if you want something. I stay at Baker's Hole ... 5 miles N of West Yellowstone and ( mostly ) enjoy the daily ride to fishing water, in the Park plus much of "Yellowstone" fishing is out of the Park but near it. Whoa Larry ... give it some more thought! When ? time of year will you be there? Past late June for 'in the Park fishing,' you will want to be fishing other than the Madison and Firehole and may well want to camp in the Park. |

None of them have sites big enough for anything but the smallest RVs, and believe the bear warnings G . For this period, near Cooke City are several campgrounds also .. what 30 miles to Slough? and one reasonably RV friendly camp in the Park that's name eludes me but it's near the other direction 20 miles maybe |

I don't stay in the park either. Didn't know about Baker's Hole but will check that out. Thanks! I usually stay at Valley View RV Park, across the street from Henrys Lake, between Island Park and West Yellowstone. It's strategically located so you can go east to Yellowstone, west to fish the Henrys Fork or north to fish the Madison. Rates are reasonable and the folks who run it are very nice. It also has Wi-fi if that's important to you. http://www.valleyviewrv.com/ There is also the Kelly Galloup's Slide Inn on the Madison River. I've never stayed there, but have picked up some stuff at the fly shop there from time to time.. http://www.slideinn.com/ S.T.W. |

Is a nice location. Walk over and fish the Madison. Not a lot of fish that I could see near the campground. Did get one, probably on a woolybugger. Is the only campground in the park with hotsprings you can get in. Down at the rivers edge. As to crowded. Did not strike me as wall to wall. Warning! The buffalo do use the tent tiedown ropes as rubbing ropes. As to no stores for 15 miles. Why not buy enough stuff for a week at one time? |

![]() "Calif Bill" wrote We stayed at the Madison Campground in the late 1980's in June with a 26' motor home. Is a nice location. Walk over and fish the Madison. Much of "where's best" depends on specific needs and desires. I go to "Greater Yellowstone" for several months, and fish more out of, than in, the Park, and my needs reflect that.... a guy with three days to spend, including playing tourist with the family, and that wants to be sure to fish the Firehole, and Madison ( in Park) will like Madison campground far more than myself, for instance. One thing I've noticed about "advice" on ROFF and similar forums is that it always reflects the givers point of view ( doh ) ..... it's the job of the person asking to sort the info provided and figure that part out. This is why the question should provide information needed to pin down an answer. Where is "best" to camp for Yellowstone fishing varies widely with time of the year ( after July 1 the Madison and Firehole are usually dead until Fall ) and what an angler defines as "yellowstone fishing" .... some guys never get into the Park on a trip to "yellowstone" ... fishing the lower Madison the whole time, for instance. |
