Hello,
Searched around to find info on whether the new rim control spools fit on the old medalists. I had trouble finding an definite answer so I just bought one and gave it a try. I have two 1495 from different era's. One is actually the left hand version of a 1495 made in the late 50's and is stamped 1595 and "Patented" by the reel foot. The other is from the 60's and stamped 1495 "Made in Akron O USA" by the foot. The 1595RC spool fits on the 50's era medalist stamped Patented, but not the Akron O USA medalist. It seems to be a problem with the spool post collar on these and it rubs somewhere when you press the spool release latch slightly and hold it the spool spins without a problem..Just thought I'd report my findings and hope it would help someone that was wondering the same thing. I don't have a DA medalist so I'm not sure if they work on those. I have a shooting head system with heavy sink heads and wanted to get rim control in case something unknown "lurks in the deep".Figured I'd be a bit more prepared. Glad it fits on one of them.
