At his time of year, the pressure on the streams in the Park will be greatly
reduced. You should be able to fish quality water - driving your car to any one of the numerous pull offs and fish. No hiking necessary. As previously stated there is the Little River shop in Townsend, a short drive from Gatlinburg, and an Orvis in Gatlinburg. If you are going over to the south side of the park the are some shops to be recommended in that area as well. The main thing is to get to a local shop for fly advice. ![]() "Joey" wrote in message ... I am going to Gatlinburg for Christmas, does anyone know of some good trout streams in the area? I fished in the area years ago in the summer. Found lots of water, very few others fishing and had a blast. Im told there is fishing on the Pigeon thru Gatlinburg but even years ago Gatlinburg was a right-wingers version of zoning and taste, ie a wasteland of crude ripoff artists with no respect for the country. The best fishing I found was along the Little River road, and at the end of that road along Abrams Creek, below the Cable Mill in Cades Cove. From the Gatlinburg park entrance, take the main road to the the Sugarlands visitor center, then go right. I don't have a clue as to the Winter fishing in the area but recall that you had to carry either a Tennessee or a North Carolina licence, but no trout stamp. Lots of little Brookies. The park itself IS incredible by any standard. Id just try to spend as little as possible in either G-burg or Pigeon Forge- why reward "businesses" that trash our country? Dave |

There's lot of good water around there, from tailwater to brookie streams to everything inbetween. I second Dale's rec of Townsend but since you are in Gatlinburg, check in with the fly shop in Gatlinburg. If my hazy memory serves me correctly it had an original name like the Smoky Mtn Fly shop or some such and was on the second floor in a building accross the street from the welcome center. |
