Default Doctor in the house?

Uh, kinda got a broken knee. Just kinda. Torn meniscus (we all know
that one) and a "fissure in the trochlea." One, I didn't know I had a
trochlea (evidently it's the end of the femur). How did I get it?
Well, what is the one piece of "no impact cardio" exercise equipment?
Can you say elliptical? I know you can. So how the hell did I crack
my knee on the elliptical? I don't friggen know.
Before the MRI, the doc sends me out to get a brace. Its
uncomfortable and makes it difficult to walk. Okay, maybe that's what
its for. 4 days later, I realize they put the son of a bitch together
wrong and the inner bar/hinge mechanism is in backwards and it won't
let my now swollen knee bend. I spent the day at the Husker football
game on Saturday with my leg bent into a damn pretzel and really
uncomfortable.
Finally, the doc calls and gives the results of the MRI and says "we
got to get you into a ortho surgeon fairly quickly."
Now that I've finished whining I'll have a beer now.

Do not know about the fissure, but the Doc scoped my torn Meniscus 5 weeks
ago. Feels better than the good knee most of the time. I recommend getting
a walker instead of the crutches. I had one at the house for my mom, and
coming back from the surgery center, they put a nerve block in the leg, so
not as much sleepy stuff needed for me. Leg does not do what you tell it to
do. So when I fell getting up on the porch I could lay on the top of the
walker and save myself. Being 6'4" and 250, I doubt wife could lift me, and
would have had to call 911. I was able to go boogie boarding in San Diego 3
weeks later, and road the bike a little too far. But was easy surgery. He
cleaned up some of the arthritis in the knee while in there.

Awesomeness snipped.

Sounds like my kind of surgery! Maybe this won't be so bad.

I've had _considerable_ experience with knee injuries, both "minor," where
'scoping wasn't necessary or suggested, and "major," where at least one doc
wanted to 'scope, and I've rehab'ed W/O 'scoping three times (but I've been
'scoped, too). Still rehabbing the latest - one orthopod wanted to 'scope, one
said "let's see what you can do w/o it" - knee works, "healable" damage healed
(ligaments, tendons, "bone bruising," etc. - a white zone injury itself really
can't "heal"), in the quad/muscle restrengthening process. A couple of
questions: it appears that the doc who put you in the brace is not a orthopod -
is that correct? If so, who - the original doc, the radiologist, an orthopod,
or ??? - is recommending the 'scope - I don't mean who told you, I mean who
actually recommended it? And two, what kind of tear/injury to the meniscus are
you being told you have and where? Wait...two more - private or VA? What's
your opinion on getting a second opinion from (another?) orthopod? I'd not
agree to a 'scope without having an orthopod I trust go over the MRI with me,
but, as always, YMMV.

R

Jesus H. Christ! Wouldn't it be a LOT simpler to just say "I have
nothing to say"?
